Lengthy discussions took place with respect to the exam structure. It was agreed that the use of
the Study Guide in the previous cycle had not produced the desired learning as memorization
without actual understanding was reflected in the exam results. Likewise it was determined that
the live practical exam would not be used for the 2013 course. It was agreed that the main
emphasis of both the course and the exam would be the practical application of the execution
and artistry penalties.
6. Application to Host an International Judges Course
Various documents received from the FIG Secretariat, regarding the application to host an
international course were reviewed. The entire application was re-drafted to simplify and
consolidate the information.
7. Functions of the Superior Jury
The document detailing the functions of the Superior Jury, Reference Judges, and the Use of
Ircos was reviewed. The document will be added to the Code of Points as Appendix 4. The
Code of Points will be modified to reflect the addition of Appendix 4 and to minimize repetitions
between the Code and the new document.
Although the use of reference judges was accepted in principle, the practical application of the
rules as drafted created great concern. ACRO has a sufficient quantity of judges to fulfil the
requirements, but there are not enough different countries with Category 1 and 2 judges to meet
the minimum numbers which will be necessary with the addition of reference judges.
Concerns were also expressed about the placement of eight additional judges around the
competition floor. The financial impact to hosting countries will make it even harder to find host
countries for a World Championship event. Finally, the allowed delta for automatic interventions
was discussed. TRC to draft a proposal to the Presidential Commission/EC to address the
various concerns.
8. Tables of Difficulty 2013
Work continued on the Tables of Difficulty 2013. The new trio balance format was reviewed and
values checked. The value of work in hand to hand for trios was increased. The value of the most
commonly used trio base positions was decreased.
Men's Group values were reviewed as well, with similar changes made.
Concerns regarding the conversion tables were discussed in detail. Despite detailed analysis, it is
difficult to predict the influence the new values will have on the direction of the disciplines. It is
understood that with the new values, the conversion tables may need to be revised to reflect the
work of the coaches and gymnasts.
Analysis to take place following the two World Cups and the World Games which should provide
an accurate picture of the work of both the top countries and the developing countries. Any
necessary revisions will be made at that time and published at least six months prior to the World
Championships in 2014. This statement was added to the Tables of Difficulty introductory
information.
The additional difficulty for values more than 10.0 was also reviewed and changes agreed. (The
current .001 will be changed to .015.)
