INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF GYMNASTICS
and Competitions" as its theme. 42 participants are expected, an increase from the traditional 20;
she is delighted with this success.
In connection with the Academies, a course on the foundation of gymnastics was conducted on
several continents. Additional information on this introductory course is available on the FIG
intranet site. The 2011 World Gymnaestrada will take place in Lausanne (SUI). 20,000 participants
are expected. Representatives of the Lausanne organizing committee are with us in Vysoke Tatry
and ready to answer any questions. The other major GfA event, World Gym for Life Challenge,
was organized for the first time in 2009 in AUT. The second edition will take place in 2013 in Cape
Town (RSA); it will be the first GfA event ever organized outside Europe. She invited everyone to
attend.
Margaret Sikkens Ahlquist thanked the members of her committee and remarked that four of them
were present in the hall.
6.2.2 from the President of the M-TC Adrian Stoica
Adrian Stoica reported that two major events had taken place since the preparation of his report in
May 2010; both events are the topics of his second report distributed in the morning. Many
questions were raised in anticipation of the first edition of the YOG, but this event turned out to be
very interesting. The quality level of the routines was sometimes superior to that of the seniors,
because juniors were not compelled to choose the most difficult elements in the code of points.
The symbiosis between sport and culture was successfully achieved. Everything went well, thanks
to the proficiency of both the organizing committee and the SIN Federation, even though they were
not used to organizing international gymnastics competitions.
The recent ART WC in Rotterdam (NED) were the second most important event. Adrian Stoica felt
that the competitions went well; 67 Federations had participated in MAG. He congratulated the
National Federations on their steady efforts to develop the discipline. Reference judges were used
for the first time and the experiment was satisfactory, but this concept should be analyzed
carefully. There was only one inquiry, which was rejected as unfounded. Adrian Stoica remarked
that he had the privilege to attend the meeting of the athletes; suggestions from these types of
exchanges should help us improve our regulations. Unfortunately Rotterdam counted too many
injuries; the Medical Commission will undertake an analysis, in an effort to avoid this problem in the
future. He underscored again the excellent work that was done by the organizing committee and
thanked Gert Jan Sikkens as well as the NED President.
6.2.3 from the President of the W-TC Nellie Kim
Nellie Kim hoped that everyone had the opportunity to read her report, which she wished to
complete. The Technical Committee had met recently in Ottawa (CAN); she thanked the CAN
Federation for their hospitality. Two World Cup competitions were organized respectively in POR
and BEL.
The YOG turned out to be a great and beautiful competition. Nellie Kim agreed with Adrian Stoica's
observations, and she thanked SIN for the outstanding organization of this event. This first edition
was a very good surprise.
Nellie Kim said that she did not have the time to prepare a report on the recent ART WC in
Rotterdam. She congratulated the NED Federation for working miracles within a very short time
limit. The use of a spider camera was a good experiment for the public and television alike. We
still need to study this device in more detail before drawing any final conclusions. She thanked her
colleagues on the WAG-TC, without whom she could never handle so many tasks. She also
thanked President Grandi, Slava Corn, Wolfgang Willam and Walter Nyffeler, as well as all the
other members of the Executive Committee. She also expressed her gratitude to the FIG
personnel and in particular to Céline Cachemaille and Ulf Andersson for their support.
