Tonya Case thanked POL for organizing the recent ACRO WC with success. These Age Group
competitions were the most important ones ever organized; 22 countries representing all 5
continents participated in the finals. The senior competitions were also the most noteworthy.
The first ACRO introductory course was organized last September in VEN and was made possible
by funds provided by the FIG, PAGU, USA, and VEN. Tonya Case thanked her colleagues on the
Technical Committee as well as the Executive Committee always ready to provide its support. She
expressed her gratitude to President Grandi, André Gueisbuhler, and Michel Léglise. She then
invited Bernard Petiot, Vice President of the Cirque du Soleil to join her on the podium.
Bernard Petiot remarked that cooperation and exchanges between the FIG and the Cirque du
Soleil had increased over time. Tonya Case had sought help for developing ACRO by stressing the
beauty and the opportunities of this discipline. He showed a video on the screen.
Tonya Case remarked that the discipline is accessible to all. She encouraged interested countries
to join ACRO. The Cirque du Soleil has shown great generosity in producing this video and making
it available to anyone interested.
USA: Steve Penny remarked that the calendar had been very busy throughout the year; he
congratulated the FIG and the organizers for the quality of the recent events. He thanked the FIG
for having agreed to play the national anthems in their entirety and making the right decision with
Janssen & Fritzen concerning the springboard in Rotterdam (NED). USA would like to have some
training on the podium. He further specified that during judging, videos should be used wisely and
only in case of inquiry. Politics should not influence judging.
Bruno Grandi thanked Steve Penny for his remarks. He then spoke of Miroslav Cerar (SLO) who
was a talented gymnast before becoming a remarkable personality. The President had the
opportunity to see him again at the beginning of the year during a visit to SLO. The FIG had
decided to participate in the funding of a book dedicated to Miroslav Cerar, which will be offered
today to all the participants in the Congress.
