President Grandi summoned his Executive Committee for an extraordinary session dealing
exclusively with the question of how to approach the future development of gymnastics and
modifications to the competition formats, and to outline a long-term marketing strategy.
· Tribute:
To begin, members paid tribute to Russian gymnast
Nikolaï Andrianov, who passed away on
March 21, 2011 at the age of 58. A legend from 1972 to 1980, he took home more Olympic medals
than any other gymnast to date: fifteen in total, seven of which were Gold!
The Committee also took a moment to remember Japan and its gymnastic community, to whom
FIG expresses its solidarity and compassion.
· Vision, objectives and missions:
Pioneered by its Marketing Commission, delegates took a critical look at the gymnastic product,
and proposed a short and medium term course of action:

Place in the world of international sport;
o
Financial self-sufficiency;
· Competition:

Competition formats;
o
Judging and sport justice;
o
Events and calendar organisation;
· FIG objectives:
o
Training, education and well-being;

Leadership within the Olympic Movement;
· The FIG member federation relationship:
o
Close collaboration with the Continental Unions;
o
Easy access to gymnasts by way of new media;
o
New sponsors through marketing;
o
More fans through exposure: television and internet;
Members are invited to comment on the proposals made by the Marketing Commission by mid-
April in the aim of approving a final budget and calendar at the May meeting in California.
· Events guide:
The same Commission presented the Bid Book project, an exhaustive guide for event organisers.
· Reviewing Superior Jury and Apparatus Supervisor responsibilities:
The Executive approved a review of the responsibilities held by the Superior Jury and Apparatus
Supervisors. The decision targets Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline Gymnastics specifically. New
rules are to be distributed at every level of the Federation and will come into force on September 1,
2011. They will replace and supersede all existing and contradictory rules in the various codes of
points.
