There could be a need for more clearly defined details regarding their roles in the next Code of
Points or Technical Regulations.
Edouard Iarov-
Mr. Iarov attended the World Cup in Stuttgart (GER) as the FIG technical delegate. There were
more than 15,500 spectators. The warm-up gym was 6-8 minutes away from the competition area.
Gymnasts were permitted to warm-up on the podium because of this issue. There was no video
review possible during the competition.
Sawao Kato-
Mr. Kato presented an international judges' course in Jakarta (INA). This was in preparation for
the Southeast Asian Games.
Jani Tanskanen-
Mr. Tanskanen hosted an athlete meeting at the World Championships in Rotterdam. There were
22 athletes from 12 different federations that attended, representing a big improvement from past
meetings. A report of the meeting details was sent to the MTC president.
Some major topics discussed:
Apparatus norms, request for extra mat on rings (5-10cm), request to raise parallel bars in fairness
to taller gymnasts, request for minimal rules changes during the cycle, high level execution needs
to be better awarded, individual element questions, Rotterdam vault board issue, request again for
the 30 second warm-up during Competition III on the podium, Rotterdam injury comments, the
early date of the 2011 second Olympic qualification (consider a later date for 2016), clarification
regarding Olympic qualification, and returning the FIG Challenger Cup name to the original World
Cup B name (for ease in securing participation funds and national media recognition).
Adrian Stoica-
Mr. Stoica recently attended the Executive Committee meeting and FIG Congress (SVK). It was
noted that the election of TC members for the next cycle will require a Level 3 Coaches' Academy
certification and Category 1 or 2 judges' rating to be a candidate. Lengthy MTC discussion
transpired over the possibility of whether coaches with Level 3 Coaches' Academy certification
should have the right to achieve a Category 2 judges' rating with a one day judges' course
presented just after the Academy. The MTC members were not in favor of this possibility.
Mr. Stoica attended the Asian Games in Guangzhou (CHN) as the FIG technical delegate. The
level of organization for the competition was the same superior level as the 2008 Olympic Games.
All technical officials were placed in a village, unlike most other competitions. There were some
issues regarding the participation of North Korea, suspended from international competition
through the 2012 Olympic Games. The Asian Games competition was very high level. Some extra
judges from China were needed to complete the panels for Competition I and II. The video review
quality did not have great resolution. Some difficulty and execution could not be evaluated. The
scoring system did not indicate whether scores had been changed prior to the final score being
displayed. This ability to see score changes would be optimum for any scoring system.
The president also visited Amman (JOR) and met with the president and staff of the federation.
The Jordan Federation has extended an invitation for MTC to meet in Amman next year.
Discussion within the MTC began regarding number of gymnasts able to qualify to the finals in the
Challenger Cups for 2011. The MTC recommended 8 gymnasts be allowed to compete in the
finals, allowing for more participation by emerging nations and a higher ratio of federations
participating in the finals since the qualification phase will likely have large participation. This will
be discussed in the Joint session with the WTC.
