ˇ There were 30 Federations in World Age Group Competition 2010;
ˇ All five continents participated in the finals at Age Group Championships;
ˇ 25 Federations will participate in the Senior World Championships 2010;
ˇ All five continents to participate in the Senior World Championships;
ˇ An additional 15 Nations are taking part in acrobatics across the world but not
competing at FIG World level.
TRC then outlined what the Acro Technical Committee has done in response to member
Federation requests, namely:
ˇ One per country to the final;
ˇ Lowered the difficulty level for seniors;
ˇ Neutral panels for the finals at both the 2010 World Championships and World Age
Group Competition.
7. Report from Cirque du Soleil
Bernard Petiot and Dima Belyaykov provided a report regarding the collaboration between
Cirque du Soleil and the FIG, in particular the developments with the ACRO Technical
Committee.
A new relationship has been established based on cooperation and respect. Careful attention
has been given to the harmonization of relationships with federations, coaches and athletes. A
pilot project has been implemented in cooperation with RUS, UKR and AZE with very positive
results. Athletes and coaches are given training grants to work in a competitive and also a
professional (CDS) programme at the same time. With agreement of personal coaches and
federations, when these gymnasts retire from the sport they will consider work for CDS.
In addition, Cirque is working as a partner for coaching education by sponsoring and providing
experts for the Academy Programme. Cirque is actively involved with the development of
Acrobatic Gymnastics in Canada.
FIG Academy Programme
KW gave a presentation on the Academy programme and outlined the resources that
candidates receive during the course.
KW outlined the success of the academy programme so far:
The first Acrobatic Gymnastics
Level 1 Academy, (January 2009), and the first Level 2
Academy, (December 2009), were both hosted in Lisbon, Portugal.
The Academy level 1 course was attended by 18 coaches from 9 different countries: Austria,
Spain, Estonia, Great Britain, Ireland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, South Africa and USA.
The Level 2 Academy was attended by 12 coaches from 5 different countries: Ireland, Portugal,
Canada, Belgium, and Russia.
