5. Doping Control: Dr. Michel Léglise
ML outlined the principles regarding doping control and identified the related issues:
ˇ Principles for the fight against doping emphasize the following three areas:
Health
Etiquette
Fair play
Rules are established by WADA /FIG rules (Olympic Games have special rules).
There is a partnership between the following organisations: WADA-FIG-Continental Unions-
Nada-Multisport Games.
The WADA forbidden product list is available on the website and coaches should be aware
of the contents. Coaches are ALWAYS advised to consult a specialist in case of any doubt
with regard to the use of medication for gymnasts.
Some forbidden products are acceptable for therapeutic reasons however, the correct
Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) forms must be completed well in advance of the event.
ˇ Doping Control:
The delegates were made aware of the "Out of Competition" testing procedures as well as
competition testing.
The issues as to the "WHERABOUTS" of identified gymnasts were discussed and the need
for such gymnasts to register their schedules on line with the FIG.
ˇ Sanctions:
These vary depending on the products used and on the reason but include suspension and
return of medal(s) won.
ˇ Conclusion:
In conclusion, ML told all the coaches that it is their responsibility to make sure that their
gymnasts must:
BE CAREFUL AS IGNORANCE PROVIDES NO PROTECTION AGAINST A SANCTION.
6. Positive Developments in the Discipline
TRC outlined the positive developments in Acrobatic Gymnastics over the past year:
ˇ The Development Project and budget were approved by President Grandi with the
focus on ASIA and PAGU;
ˇ Cooperation with Cirque du Soleil has been established;
ˇ Acrobatics used as a demonstration at the World Championships in Artistic Gymnastics;
ˇ Spelbound GBR Acrobatic Team won Britain's Got Talent with more that 20 million
hits on the website a fantastic promotion for the sport;
ˇ Many more gymnasts are participating;
