Asian Games (CHN) Nellie Kim
All logistics aspects (i.e. in terms of accommodation, transportation, venues) were well organized.
Technical problems could be noticed due to the poor
communication/liaison between the local
organizing committee, the Chinese Association and the Asian Continental Union.
Only 37 gymnasts participated in competitions.
The Apparatus were supplied by Janssen & Fritsen and as in the Rotterdam World
Championships, the control of the springboards created problems.
The Work Plan (hard copy), including the competition and training schedules was delivered to
the federations very late.
The competitions were televised, however the position of the cameras were incorrect, mainly
due to the fact that no gymnastics experts were consulted on this matter (i.e. the SJ could not
see the landings and the cameras were placed in front of each of the FX corner - which was
dangerous when the gymnasts landed).
The Video system for the SJ was available. It was similar to the IRCOS, but it need to be
improved.
The WTC would like the FIG to possibly create a General Organization Manual to regulate FIG
competitions (such as the multi-sport games, OC, WC, etc.). This manual should include
guidelines to assure all competitions would have a standard organization in terms of training
time and sessions, formation of groups, competition start time, etc.
World Cup in Ostrava Naomi Valenzo
Two situations had a negative impact on the organization of the 2010 edition of this World Cup:
The Competition had to be moved from the original venue selected to another venue due to the
fact that the Volleyball World Championships were held at the same time in Ostrava. The new
venue chosen for gymnastics was small and did not have any training/warm up hall equipped
with another set of apparatus. Only a stretching area with mats was at disposal.
At the last moment, Janssen & Fritsen failed to the supply the required equipment. Therefore,
the OC utilized existing apparatus that did not always meet the FIG Apparatus norms (eg. both
bars could not be raised - 5 cm - when needed).
Participating Federations: 6
Total number of gymnasts: 14
There was just one Judges' Panel. The OC had to invite 2 neutral judges (ITA, FRA). A RUS
judge was available (because she has coach contract in Ostrava) and the permission from the
RUS Federation had to be obtained.
The TD had to serve as AS on the Panel.
