FÉDÉRATION INTERNATIONALE DE GYMNASTIQUE
79th FIG Congress & General Assembly - Cancun (MEX) 2012
Welcome Message from FIG President
Dear Friends,
The Congress and General Assembly are among the most significant events in the life of our
Federation. The statutory gathering is a chance to compare notes and bring each other up to date
on projects.
While the Cancun Congress serves as a backdrop for the election of our authorities, it is also a
platform where everyone is encouraged to speak in a spirit of democracy; to spur FIG and
gymnastics toward progress, modernity, development and to enable the Federation and its sport to
meet the demands of its members.
It is a secret to no one that the socio-economic climate requires great caution in the way we
manage our affairs. Development and progress mean revamping structures, innovating proactively,
making proposals. And while Rome wasn't built in a day, inroads must be forged, doors must open.
Let us set the bar higher in terms of the way our sport and our competitions are handled.
Recent FIG endeavours bear witness to the wisdom of our choices; we have every reason to be
optimistic. Consider the Olympic qualifications and the wonderful example of sport justice there.
I look forward to seeing you in Cancun, knowing I can count on your comprehension and
participation.
I would like to thank the Mexican Gymnastics Federation and its President, Gustavo Salazar, for a
warm welcome and impeccable organisation of this 79
th
Congress.
Welcome to Cancun!
Bruno GRANDI
