Development
Thank you for the contributions of ideas and suggestions offered during the following events/from
the following groups, in addition to those mentioned above, with whom consultations were made
specifically related to the Code of Points:
Montreal World Cup
Asian Games
Pan American Games
UEG RG TC
Thank you as well to the national federations who sent suggestions over these two years for the
Code of Points; the 2013 Code is a product of the study and contributions not only of the TC, but of
the world's technicians and members of various FIG bodies and the Academy.
Outcomes
The Code has been reduced by nearly 100 pages for less repetition, fewer symbols, reduced
complexity (D2). The primary changes are the following:
1 Eliminated the separation of body and apparatus difficulty scores (former D1 and D2) in order
to emphasize the principle of coordination and relationship between body movements and
apparatus handling as a unified entity. 1 D score will be given.
2 Eliminated Artistry as a separate score and as a result only one (1) score for Execution will
be given. The Execution score implies 2 components, the Artistic and Technical faults.
Consequently eliminated the Artistry official form
3 On the scientific basis, eliminated the body movements group of "Flexibility" and as a result
the body movements are categorized in 3 groups: Jumps/Leaps, Balances and incorporated
all body rotations into one group as Rotations.
4 Reduced the number of Difficulties for Individual exercises to maximum 9 (previously 12)
and for Group exercises to maximum 10 (previously 14) in order to give more time and
attention for apparatus handling, choreographic creativity and originality
5 Reduced the value of each body difficulty within a progression of 0.10 to 0.50 (previously
0.10 to 1.00) and consequently the value of Exchanges in Group exercises
6 Eliminated the possibility of repetition of body difficulties, which now can be used only once,
isolated OR in a combination, but not both.
7 Concentrated on apparatus requirements and not only the body elements as Difficulty.
8 Requirement for the predominance of the fundamental groups specific to each apparatus
(more than 50%) in order to emphasize the differences and unique characteristics of each
apparatus
9 Introduced the dance steps combination as a required component (0.30)
10 Concentrated on apparatus requirements and not only the body elements as difficulty
11 Introduced Apparatus Mastery as an optional Difficulty component, an incentive to enhance
the creativity and originality of apparatus handling
12 Paid maximum attention to Execution part in weighting of Difficulty and Execution in the final
score.
13 Reduced the number of Juries and Judges. Jury composition:
2 Juries (previously 3) Difficulty and Execution
8 Judges, 4D + 4E (previously 12)
