FÉDÉRATION INTERNATIONALE DE GYMNASTIQUE
40 Category IV judges have been upgraded to Category III after fulfilling the required number
of competitions in the current cycle:
2009 - 12 judges (AUT, CAN, FRA, GBR, ITA, KOR, ROU)
2010 - 11 judges (BRA, CAN, CHN, COL, FRA, JPN, NZL, SYR, UKR)
2011 - 13 judges (CHI, CHN, ITA, NZL, UKR)
2012 4 judges (ITA, POR)
The judges' evaluation program (JEP), prepared by Mr. Les Fairbrother (GBR) is a useful tool for
the WTC in the evaluation of the judges work after each FIG Official Competition. It provides
statistics as well as the results of the Post competition evaluation, which are submitted by the WTC
to the FIG Disciplinary Commission for decisions.
VII. 2013 WAG CODE OF POINTS
Almost 7 years ago significant changes were introduced to the WAG COP.
It became even more obvious now that the quality of the performance is playing a significant role.
The main goals of the current WAG COP seems to be achieved:
Universality and accessibility for everyone.
A code which lasts for a long period of time: minor adjustments were made compared to the
2005 COP edition.
The safety of the gymnasts is a primary goal and the current Code gives more value to the
quality of the execution and artistry.
The principal change implemented in 2009 (such as reducing the number of counting DVs from 10
to 8) allows the gymnasts
to create a balance between the artistic and the acrobatic components of the exercise.
more time to be dedicated in the exercises for perfecting the technique, including dance
elements, and executing original choreography
to reward the gymnasts who actually perform "big gymnastics"
The Youth Olympic Games and FIG Official Competitions during this cycle showed that the new
Code works well and can be considered a success, though the evaluation of the exercises still
represents a subjective part. It requires further judges' education. This process also depends on
the judge's gymnastic knowledge, personal experience, different culture, habits, relationships,
abilities... and honesty.
