FÉDÉRATION INTERNATIONALE DE GYMNASTIQUE
REVIEW
2010
Difficult apparatus elements being
attempted; still lack of perfection
Insufficient performances in Artistry: lack
of expressivity and musicality linked to
poor choices of music
Problems with evaluation of Artistry, too
much subjectivity and too many points;
must be changed for next COP
Judgment
o First official use of Reference judges
o 5 verbal warnings given during
competition for incorrect judgment
o 6 letters sent to judges following the
post-competition analysis for weak
or bias judgment
2011
Overall improved choice of music
Review of concerns regarding: reserve
apparatus during competition on a raised
podium, changes to country start lists
submissions; interpretation of the
qualification rights into the Second
Olympic Qualification
Judgment
CI: 7 Artistry judges given a verbal warning;
1 judge removed from the panel after day 3
(following a first warning after the 2010
World Championships)
CII Groups: 3 Inquiries submitted during
Competition II (Group); 2 scores adjust per
the regulations for the Superior Jury
Reference Judges: recommend further review
of the judges selected so that countries
which have qualified to the Olympic Games
or the Second Olympic qualification (or are
strong contenders for Olympic qualification)
are not represented by two judges in the
World Championships
Performance Level
o The top two individual gymnasts
have reached such a high level of
performance that they are pushing
the limits of the Code of Points
o The level of individual competition
was so close that several very good
nations did not advance to the All-
Around Final
o All 24 Groups showed a high level of
preparation ; there are more than 12
Olympic caliber Groups
Fairbrother system proved to be a very professional and objective process to evaluate the work of
judges. It has been very helpful for Technical Committee work during the last four years.
